What the headteacher says
Headteacher Steve Lung said: “We’re incredibly proud of our school, with its wonderful outdoor spaces, fantastic Reception team and strong sense of community where every child belongs.
“Our vision is ‘Growing together towards life in all its fullness’, and we’d love families to come and see that in action. There’s no better way to get a feel for a school than to visit, meet the people and see the children enjoying their day.”
About the school
Flax Bourton has around 200 pupils, which the school says makes it “small enough to foster a strong sense of belonging while offering children a rich and varied education”. It describes itself as a village school about 10 minutes from Bristol, with spacious grounds and close links with the village community.
Its three core values are Compassion, Courage and Curiosity. The school says its Reception provision is “a particular strength”: it says its early years teaching has been recognised as a model of good practice, with teachers and school leaders from other schools visiting to learn from its approach.
The school counts its outdoor space among its greatest assets, “giving children opportunities to play, explore nature and enjoy being active”. Clubs beyond the classroom include nature club, choir, computing and cheerleading.
