Station Road and the High Street in Nailsea close to traffic from Monday 2 November for about two weeks of bus works. The diversion runs via Mizzymead Road.

Part of Nailsea’s Station Road and High Street will close to traffic from Monday 2 November. North Somerset Council expects the closure to last about two weeks.

The council gave notice of the order on 14 October (North Somerset Council, notice of temporary traffic regulation order). It is for works under the Bus Service Improvement Plan, the government-funded programme that is also rebuilding the town’s main bus stop on Link Road.

Which roads close

The order closes these stretches to vehicles and cyclists:

  • Station Road, from opposite number 117 to where it becomes the High Street
  • High Street, from the end of Station Road to its junction with Link Road

The signed diversion runs:

  • Station Road, Mizzymead Road, Stock Way South, Stock Way North and Link Road

The order itself can run for up to 18 months, which is standard for these notices. The council says the roads will only be closed “as necessitated by the works”, and that it expects that to be about two weeks. Signs go up while the closure is in force.

The notice does not say what the works are. It names the council’s head of infrastructure for the bus programme as the contact, at bsip.engagement@n-somerset.gov.uk or 01934 888 888.

Link Road has been one-way since Monday 28 September, from the Waitrose junction towards the High Street. The left turn from the High Street into Link Road is shut. That work is replacing the town’s main bus shelter with a bigger one with real-time screens and a green roof, and the council expects it to finish in late November (North Somerset Council, 16 September).

The council said in September it would also resurface the High Street at the Link Road end. It is surveying the block paving along the rest of the High Street to judge whether to replace it in a future maintenance scheme.

Buses

On 20 October, First Bus’s service page still showed only the Link Road closure. It says the A2 airport bus, the X9 to Bristol and the X11 are using a temporary stop on Stock Way North, or stops at Christ Church, Clevedon Road or Southfield Road (First Bus, current issues). It had not yet published any change for the Station Road and High Street closure. We will add it when it does.

What it means for you

  • Driving into the town centre from the south from 2 November, expect to use Mizzymead Road and Stock Way instead of Station Road.
  • The order covers vehicles and cyclists. The notice does not close the pavements.
  • If you live or run a business on the closed stretch, the council’s bus programme team is the contact above.
  • Remembrance Sunday is 8 November. Nailsea’s parade sets off at 10.20am from Hannah More Road along St Mary’s Grove and Church Lane to Holy Trinity, according to Nailsea Town Council, so it does not use the closed stretch. Times are on our Remembrance Sunday page.

Every current closure across the district is on our North Somerset roadworks page, and town centre parking is on our parking in North Somerset page.
