Old Street's bus stop moves, a new crossing and loading bay go in, and from 30 August the X10 serves upper Clevedon. Works at The Triangle run to late 2026.

Clevedon town centre is at the start of several months of transport works. North Somerset Council says the scheme around The Triangle and Old Street began on 3 August and is “expected to finish towards the end of the year”, so drivers, bus passengers and traders are looking at changed layouts through the autumn and into the winter. (North Somerset Council, 28 July)

The biggest change is to how traffic moves around the clocktower: vehicles will be redirected to its right-hand side, with kerb lines realigned for two-way running. On Old Street, the current bus stop moves to the left-hand side of the road, and the space where the existing stop stands will become a dedicated loading bay, an additional car parking space and a new pedestrian crossing. (North Somerset Council, 28 July)

Bus passengers get two new high-specification shelters, one on Kenn Road and one in The Triangle next to the clocktower. The council also lists new paving in key areas and new benches, including “Happy to Chat” benches. (North Somerset Council, 28 July)

A bus route extension from 30 August

Alongside the street works, the council says that “from 30 August the X10 will also serve upper Clevedon, operating between The Triangle and the seafront”. For a town with no railway station, the bus network is the public transport offer, so a new leg linking upper Clevedon to the town centre and seafront is a real change to how residents get around; our North Somerset trains and travel guide covers the rail options from the wider district.

The works are funded by the UK Government, and the council frames them as part of its wider bus strategy. Councillor Hugh Malyan, the council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “These improvements are a key part of our Bus Service Improvement Plan, which aims to make public transport more reliable, accessible, and attractive for everyone.” (North Somerset Council, 28 July)

What it means for you

If you drive through the town centre, expect a changing layout around the clocktower and Old Street until the works finish late in the year, and allow a few extra minutes at busy times. Our roadworks and travel page tracks the district’s other current disruption.

If you catch the bus, the Old Street stop is moving to the other side of the road during the scheme, and from 30 August the X10 adds its new upper Clevedon leg between The Triangle and the seafront.

If you run a town centre business, the finished scheme includes a dedicated loading bay on Old Street where the current bus stop stands, plus an extra parking space, new paving and seating intended to make the centre easier to linger in.

Details of the scheme and the council’s wider bus plans are on the Bus Service Improvement Plan page.
