North Somerset's half term is 26 to 30 October, but Clevedon School breaks up on 16 October. What's on at the Grand Pier, Tyntesfield and Weston Museum.

October half term in North Somerset is Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026 for schools that follow the council’s dates, and most of the big academies match it. Clevedon School does not: its pupils finish on Friday 16 October, so Clevedon families have two weeks.

Below is what is actually on that week, with dates and prices from each organiser’s own website. Most of it is in Weston-super-Mare or at Wraxall, between Nailsea and Bristol.

The quick answer

  • Half term: Monday 26 to Friday 30 October. Schools reopen on Monday 2 November, but Nailsea School pupils return on Wednesday 4 November and Churchill Academy pupils on Tuesday 3 November. Full school-by-school dates are on our term dates page.
  • Free: Weston Museum’s Dino Day on Thursday 29 October, the Tyntesfield pumpkin display (with normal admission) and Noah’s Ark farm shop Pumpkinfest, which is free to enter and park.
  • Biggest paid option: Halloween at the Grand Pier, 24 October to 1 November, with all-inclusive Halloween wristbands.

Whose half term?

North Somerset Council’s Term 1 ends on Friday 23 October and Term 2 starts on Monday 2 November (North Somerset Council). Gordano, Backwell, Churchill and Nailsea schools all break up on 23 October too.

Clevedon School puts three INSET days on 19, 20 and 21 October and says students finish on Friday 16 October. If you have one child at Clevedon School and another at a primary that follows the council’s dates, their breaks overlap for only one week.

Weston-super-Mare

Halloween at the Grand Pier

The pier is themed for Halloween from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November. The pier says there will be free face painting, a Witches Grotto and the Wicked Witch of Weston. Each Halloween wristband includes entry to see the Wicked Witch for one child and one adult, and the wristband offer cannot be combined with other offers or discount codes. The pier’s page does not give the wristband price; it is shown when you book (The Grand Pier).

On Thursday 29 October Party Peeps holds a two-hour family Halloween party in the pier’s Regency Suite, at 1pm to 3pm or 4pm to 6pm. It is an external event booked through the promoter, and the pier says it is not included in wristbands (The Grand Pier).

Weston Museum’s dinosaur week

Weston Museum on Burlington Street runs something on most days of half term (Weston Museum events).

  • Saturday 24 October, 10am to 1pm: dinosaur soap making with Art in Mind, £7.
  • Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October: Dino Dig sessions at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.45pm, digging for fossils and making a clay fossil to take home, £7.50. The museum says they suit younger children and their grown-ups best.
  • Thursday 29 October, 10am to 3pm: Dino Day with Raptors World, whose costumed dinosaurs and rangers visit through the day. Free.
  • Friday 30 October: dino-themed pick and mix crafts at 10am, 11am and noon, £5 per person; accompanying adults do not need a ticket.
  • Saturday 31 October: Halloween slime workshop, four sessions from 10am, £5.

The Helicopter Museum

The museum’s Halloween Family Fun Day is on Sunday 25 October, the day before half term starts. It says children in Halloween fancy dress get in free, with giant bubble shows in the indoor arena at 11.30am and 12.45pm and the chance to sit in a pilot’s seat (The Helicopter Museum events).

On normal days the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4.30pm, with last admission at 3.30pm. Admission is £15 for adults, £8.50 for children aged 3 to 15 and £36 for two adults and two children (The Helicopter Museum). Check before a Monday or Tuesday visit in half term.

Wraxall: Tyntesfield and Noah’s Ark

Tyntesfield

The National Trust house between Nailsea and Bristol runs a family Halloween trail, Horace the Hunky Punk’s Very Gothic Gathering, from 24 October to 1 November. Children follow a stone figure who has escaped from the chapel roof, do activities along the way and get a prize at the end. No booking is needed. The autumn harvest display in the Orangery, hundreds of pumpkins, squashes and gourds grown in the Kitchen Garden, runs from 24 October to 15 November (National Trust, Tyntesfield).

In half term week the house is open 10.30am to 3.30pm and the estate 10am to 6pm. Whole-site entry is £21 for an adult, £10.50 for a child aged 5 to 17, £52.50 for a family of two adults and up to three children, and free for under-fives and National Trust members. Parking is £5 a day until the end of October and £3 from November (National Trust, Tyntesfield). Our Tyntesfield in winter page covers the house’s shorter winter hours and Christmas.

Pumpkinfest at Noah’s Ark

The farm shop at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm runs its pick-your-own pumpkin patch until Saturday 31 October, 10.30am to 5.30pm, with more than 30 varieties of pumpkin and gourd. Entry and parking are free and dogs are welcome (Noah’s Ark Farm Shop). The zoo itself is a separately ticketed day out; it offers 10% off gate prices when you book five full days ahead (Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm).

After half term

The week after, the calendar fills up quickly: the Weston-super-Mare carnival procession on Friday 13 November and Fireworks at Sea on Saturday 14 November. Our Bonfire Night and fireworks page and Christmas lights page have the details. For getting to Weston and parking there, see our parking page and roadworks page.

Still to be confirmed

  • The Grand Pier’s Halloween wristband price is shown only at booking.
  • Whether the Helicopter Museum opens on the Monday and Tuesday of half term: its website gives only its standard days.
